Favorite Songs of 2014: Studio, Schoolboy Q featuring BJ the Chicago Kid and 2 On, Tinashe featuring Schoolboy Q (NSFW)

Welcome to the Schoolboy Q edition of my favorite songs of the year! I fell for Q when I caught his set at Pitchfork Fest in 2012. Admittedly, I knew nothing about him. I hadn’t even heard Hands On the Wheel. But that’s why I love festivals–you catch artists you might’ve otherwise missed. Q was at Pitchfork again this year–although on a bigger stage much later in the day–and was just as charming as his festival debut.

Oxymoron is one of my top five albums of the year–which includes Collard Greens, one my faves of 2013–and I admit there may be stronger tracks than Studio. But I don’t care–I love it.

Tinashe is an incredible new artist with a great debut album, Aquarius. Her track–Pretend featuring A$AP Rocky–could’ve just as easily been on this list. But 2 On is my jam.
